FAQ
Q1: What exactly is Flexible Stone? Is it real stone?
A: Yes, it is 100% real, natural stone. It is a veneer consisting of a thin layer (1-3mm) of genuine stone (like slate, sandstone, or limestone) that has been reinforced on the back with a flexible fiberglass-polymer composite mesh. This gives it the authentic look and feel of solid stone with unprecedented flexibility and low weight.
Q2: What is the main advantage over traditional stone tiles or slabs?
A: The key advantages are extreme lightweight (about 85% lighter) and high flexibility. This drastically reduces structural load, allows application on curved surfaces (like columns and arches), and significantly cuts installation time and cost by eliminating the need for heavy support structures and specialized lifting equipment.
Q3: Can it be bent or applied to curved walls? What is the minimum radius?
A: Yes, bending is its core feature. The minimum bending radius can be as low as 50mm for the 1mm thickness product, making it perfect for wrapping around columns, arches, barrel vaults, and other complex geometries where rigid stone would be impossible or prohibitively expensive to use.
Q4: Is it suitable for exterior applications?
A: Absolutely. Since the face is natural stone, it inherits the stone’s inherent durability and UV resistance. It is an excellent, lightweight cladding solution for building facades, exterior column wraps, and signage. Proper installation with an exterior-grade, flexible adhesive and (if required by stone type) a suitable sealer is crucial for long-term performance.
Q5: How is it installed?
A: Installation is a straightforward adhesive method:
Substrate: Must be solid, flat, clean, and stable (e.g., concrete, cement board, properly sheathed framing).
Adhesive: A high-performance, polymer-modified, flexible stone adhesive is applied to both the substrate and the back of the veneer with a notched trowel.
Application: The sheet is pressed firmly into place. It can be easily trimmed with a utility knife or heavy-duty scissors.
Grouting: Optional. Can be installed with flexible grout for a tiled look or without grout for a seamless, dry-stack appearance.
Q6: How do you maintain and clean it?
A: Maintenance is similar to natural stone. For interior use, dusting or wiping with a damp cloth is usually sufficient. For exterior or high-traffic areas, the specific type of stone may require occasional re-sealing with an appropriate penetrating sealer to maintain its appearance and stain resistance. We provide care guidelines based on the stone type supplied.
Q7: Can you customize the size, stone type, and finish?
A: Yes. We offer extensive customization:
Size: Custom sheet or tile dimensions are available.
Stone Type: A wide range of quarried stone can be processed into flexible veneer (subject to the stone’s inherent cleavability).
Finish: The stone surface can be supplied in its natural cleft state, honed, or with a factory-applied sealer/enhancer.
Edge: Natural broken edge or precision straight-cut edge.
Q8: What is the lead time?
A:
Lead Time: 20-30 working days for standard items. Custom stone sourcing and processing may extend this timeline.
